Helen Pynor’s success continues. Helen is the recipient of an Australia Council Studio in London.
Helen proposes to undertake research that follows on from her PhD research, in the art-medicine area, at numerous London museums of medical science/surgery and at the Wellcome Collection.
Other important news: Helen has been developing a collaborative project with Melbourne artist Peta Clancy around organ transplantation and the questions of subjectivity that it raises, their proposal has been accepted culmonating in a 3 month residency at SymbioticA in Perth (the art-biosciences research laboratory). At SymbioticA they plan to learn techniques of microsurgery that will allow them to undertake a specific element of their collaborative project, as well as exploring the conceptual questions underlying the project.

Marian Drew and Charles Robb have been selected for the University of Queensland National Artists’ Self Portrait Prize to be To be opened by Elizabeth Ann Macgregor Director, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney and judge of the 2009 Prize. The Stan and Maureen Duke Gold Coast Art Prize is an acquisitive art award and exhibition, open to all forms of art media except photography. This Prize is managed by Gold Coast City Art Gallery and began its life in 1968 with the inaugural Gold Coast Art Prize. The prize entered a new era in 2007 with the support of the Stan and Maureen Duke Foundation.
