Natasha Bieniek is a finalist for the Redlands Westpac Emerging Artist Prize.
The 16th Redlands Westpac Art Prize (the Prize), open to Australian and New Zealand artists, will be presented at the National Art School in Sydney’s Darlinghurst from 2 May until 2 June 2012. It offers a total prize pool of more than $30,000 covering two main award categories of established and emerging artists.
Redlands Principal, Dr Peter Lennox said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the National Art School to showcase some of the latest and most exciting works by leading contemporary Australian and New Zealand artists.”
The winning artists in both the main prize and emerging prize will be announced on Wednesday 2 May 2012. With the exception of the winning art works that are acquired by Redlands School, all works exhibited in the Prize will be available for purchase.

The much anticipated official portrait of The Hon. John Brumby, former Premier of Victoria, is now ready to be hung in Queen’s Hall, at Victorian Parliament House. An image will be uploaded after the official announcement.Juan has also been commissioned by Vincent Alessi, Director of La Trobe University Visual Arts Space, Bendigo. The major installation will comprise a forest installed in the gallery, with anamorphic devices. It is entitled The Sleep of Reason, Opening May 10.On the International front Juan will participate in The Cosmopolitain Stranger: Hotel de Immigrantes 2, curated by Koen Vanmechelen and Tomasz Wendland, in Hasselt, Belgium. Part of Manifesta 9 (the European Biennale) Manifesta is the only itinerant european biennial of contemporary art, together with events such as the biennial of Venice and the Documenta in Kassel, Manifesta is one of the foremost art events of Europe.He is then onto the USA, where he will exhibit at Krause Gallery, Orchard Street Lower East Side, New York City.
The 2012 ARTECYCLE exhibition will take place 18 May 2012 to 8 July 2012.
ARTECYCLE is an annual non-acquisitive sculpture and installation competition with a prize pool of $14,000 including:
- $10,000 East Keilor & Strathmore Community Bank Award
- $3,000 The Incinerator Gallery Award
- $1,000 Incinerator People’s Choice Award
Inspired by the Incinerator Gallerys history, entrants are asked to explore the themes of environmentalism and sustainability using either recycled materials or materials that would otherwise be considered disposable.
The 2012 exhibition will be judged by Doug Hall, AM, Australian Commissioner, Venice Biennale, 2011 and former director of the Queensland Art Gallery.
The selection committee members for the exhibition were
- Donna Marcus, Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the Queensland College of the Arts, Griffith University
- Simon Gregg, curator of the Gippsland Art Gallery
- Giacomina Pradolin, former director of the Linden Gallery
Congratulations to Juan Ford and Victoria Reichelt who are both finalists in the Inaugural Gold Award for Contemporary Painting.| The award is in memory of Moya Gold, a philanthropist and educator in the arts.
The winner will be announced 1 June 2012.

Congratulations to Becc Orszag and Peter Thomas who are both finalists in the 2012 Swan Hill Print and Drawing Acquisitive Awards.
The mission of the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Acquisitive Awards is to promote excellence in Australian prints and drawings; present an exhibition of contemporary Australian prints and drawings, and continue to build a high quality collection for Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery.
Two prizes are awarded, one print and one drawing $7,000 each. The announcement will be on Saturday 12 May and the exhibition will run until Sunday 8 July.
