The TRANSIENT PERMANENCE series explores elements of ZEN rituals, primal instincts and enlightenment. This final project examines the process of stripping away the limitations created by
complexity, mastery and familiarity, to allow failure to occur in order to observe the outcomes of chance.
“This project was initially inspired by Eugen Herrigel’s book, Zen in the Art of Archery, where Herrigel a German philosopher, describes the profound enlightenment he gained from studying the ancient form of Japanese archery “Kyudo” for six years in Japan.
I began this project in 2009 with the show TOO FAST, TOO SOON where I presented the parallels of Kyudo, the training of the Geisha and nature, in relation to the artist’s creative process and the expectations placed on the finished product.” Jamie Boys
