Louise Blyton

BIOGRAPHY

Blyton’s practice is informed by reductive art and its histories. The cohesion of painting, sculpture and materials are implemented in their purest forms. Straight, vertical and horizontal lines demarcate solid shapes in paint pigment on linen.

Blyton utilises raw pigments for their amazing saturation of true colour, the intense matte finish and the physicality they possess. When partnered with linen it provides a substrate of rawness and simplicity. The tactile surface and historical significance of linen also evokes certain romance.

This has brought a more interactive quality between the work and its environment, creating a discursive relationship between the viewer, the work and the subtleties of surrounding light and shadow.

Louise was born in Melbourne and graduated from a Bachelor of Fine Art at RMIT University in 1988. She has exhibited widely in numerous group exhibitions and has also curated group shows.
