SHAUN O'CONNOR

BIOGRAPHY

Shaun O'Connor's process driven practice is an investigation into the poetry and politics of mark-making and various relationships to public and private space, sign systems and popular culture. These ideas are materialised through a range of media in painterly installations, objects, screen based and site-specific public projects.

The artist's first project with Dianne Tanzer was Place Position in 2006, an installation of photographs edited from an ongoing archive of publicly situated inscriptions and marks. In early 2007 Shaun O'COnnor held a solo showing of paintings, photographs and video, titled 'what else is there to do but go outside and look around' at the Toowoomba Regional Gallery. 2008 saw O'Connor participate in Neo Goth: Back in Black, a large group show at the University of Queensland Art Museum. O'Connor has most recently held a residency at La Cite internationale des Arts in Paris.

He is currently working in his New York studio for upcoming exhibitions in Queensland and Victoria in 2012.
